Twenty-five
years ago the Japanese
Ministry of Health
funded a study focusing
on the lifestyle
of elderly Okinawans
- the so-called
Okinawan Centenarian
Study. How was it
that these Japanese
islands were producing
centenarians (hundred-year-olds)
faster than any
other culture in
the world? And how
was it that those
over eighty were
living lives with
energy and vigour
like people under
forty? Okinawa also
has the lowest incidence
of cancer in the
entire world.
The study discovered
that, compared
to Westerners,
Okinawans age
relatively slowly,
delaying or markedly
decreasing the
risk for chronic
disease. The Okinawans
have achieved
this by slowing
down their pace
of life, living
in what they like
to call 'Okinawa
Time'. Complete
the following
questionnaire
and find out whether
you live on 'Okinawa
time' or 'Western
time':
